Kate Barrett – Complementary Therapy & Bereavement Practitioner

I qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1996 and have spent 25 years working as a Community Nurse, providing compassionate, person-centred care to individuals in their own homes. Over time, I developed a deep interest in holistic approaches to health, particularly in palliative and end-of-life care. In 2022, I completed Diploma in Reflexology to help enhance comfort and wellbeing. In 2023, I began volunteering at Sandville Self Help Foundation whose values of care, dignity, and compassion deeply resonated with me. This experience reinforced my passion for working within the charitable sector and led to my appointment as a Complementary Therapy and Bereavement Practitioner in April 2025 funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.

Drawing on my nursing background and completing a Diploma in Grief & Bereavement in 2025, I have been actively involved in developing the charity’s grief and bereavement service, helping shape a supportive, sensitive service for those facing loss.

I feel privileged to combine my clinical background with holistic and emotional support in Sandville Self Help Foundation, a charity where people truly come first.
